Prolapse

Whether you're worried about a :

  • Uterine prolapse
  • Bladder prolapse (Cystocele)
  • Vaginal prolapse
  • Womb prolapse
  • Prolapse of the rectum (Rectocele)

these may be prevented, and reversed (if not yet too severe) by properly exercising the pelvic floor muscles.

A pelvic prolapse does not start out as a medical condition but as a physical fitness problem.  The muscles of the pelvic floor become too weak to support the pelvic

organs.  When the organ descends or becomes displaced it is said to be prolapsed.

Successful pelvic floor exercise, which always involves squeezing against resistance, strengthens and bulks up the the pelvic floor (PC) muscle and may help greatly to prevent prolapse.  When a prolapse is in an early stage, successful pelvic floor exercise along with some simple lifestyle changes may reverse it without surgery.

The first stages of a prolapse or 'fallen' bladder, uterus, cervix etc. just involve the pubococcygeal (PC) muscle being stretched.  You may have an unpleasant feeling of pressure, perhaps back pain, and a feeling of something bulging.

A correct diagnosis may help to allay some of the fear and worry you may experience if you suspect you may have a prolapse. Exercising against the progressive resistance of the Kegelmaster™ may also help significantly, especially if your doctor recommends pelvic floor exercises, as the Kegelmaster makes pelvic floor exercises much more effective.

Some lifestyle changes you should consider are:

1) Giving up smoking

2) Ensure you eat a healthy high-fibre diet to prevent constipation, and the straining that goes with it

3) Avoid heavy lifting or straining

4) Maintaining a healthy weight, and losing weight if you're overweight

If you need to get help with these - do!  You're worth it!
